YouTube Summarize is a browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge that creates an AI-generated summary of a YouTube video when a user requests one. This policy explains what information the extension handles, why it handles it, and the services involved.
Information the extension handles
Summary requests
When you click Summarize, the extension sends the current YouTube video URL, your selected summary depth, and the detected video language when available to Heuristica's summarization service. Heuristica returns the generated summary to the extension. The extension does not send your YouTube search history, YouTube account information, comments, passwords, or the contents of other webpages.
Payments and Pro access
If you start a trial, purchase Pro, restore access, or use a paid feature, ExtensionPay and its payment processor, Stripe, handle the checkout and entitlement process. YouTube Summarize may receive and locally cache your email address, paid status, plan, and trial timestamps so it can recognize Pro access. The extension does not receive or store complete payment-card or bank-account details.
Minimal product analytics
The extension sends two event types to Google Analytics 4: when the Summarize button is shown and when it is clicked. These events use randomly generated client and session identifiers. Analytics events do not include video URLs or IDs, video titles, transcripts, generated summaries, searches, email addresses, payment status, or other page content.
Data stored in your browser
The extension uses browser storage for:
- successful free-summary timestamps and a temporary in-progress reservation;
- the selected summary depth;
- a short-lived cached Pro or trial entitlement; and
- random Google Analytics client and session identifiers.
How information is used
Information is used only to:
- generate the summary you request;
- provide and verify free, trial, and Pro access;
- remember extension preferences and quota state;
- measure aggregate use of the Summarize button; and
- maintain the reliability and security of the extension.
YouTube Summarize does not sell user data. It does not use or transfer user data for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or purposes unrelated to summarizing YouTube videos and providing the extension's access plans.
Service providers
- Heuristica generates requested summaries.
- Google Analytics receives the two minimal analytics events.
- ExtensionPay manages trial, purchase, and entitlement workflows.
- Stripe processes payments made through ExtensionPay.
These providers process information under their own privacy policies and retention practices.
Retention and choices
Local extension data remains in your browser until it expires, is replaced, you clear the extension's storage, or you uninstall the extension. Service providers may retain information under their own policies. You can stop future collection by uninstalling YouTube Summarize. You can avoid sending a YouTube URL to Heuristica by not clicking Summarize.
Security
The extension uses encrypted HTTPS connections when communicating with service providers. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but the extension limits the information it sends and does not log raw transcripts, generated summaries, passwords, or complete payment details.
Changes and contact
This policy may be updated when the extension's data practices or service providers change. For privacy questions or requests, visit the support page.
